Okay, this anime series is a little bit weird, but then all the anime I’ve been watching lately has been weird, you’ll hear about the rest soon enough.
Gurren Lagann takes place on a world in which Humanity lives underground with the ever present threat of death from Beastmen if they breach the surface, the show follows shy guy Simon, being encouraged by a friend through out everything, Simon learns to believe in himself (or rather, he believes in the him that his friend believes in), against a backdrop of saving the world from ever increasing threats, first the Beastmen, then the ever illusive Anti-spirals.
How Simon does this is through piloting a very special robot, a tiny little thing that has an innate ability to connect to and control other robots, Simon uses this to save the world and more.
I don’t want to spoil the ending for you, but if you’re into robots or Mecha, it is worth noting that Gurren Lagann has possibly the largest Mech in creation.
The show is a little weird but it is fun, the characters are funny in their own way and the plot progresses quicker than most, it is a funny little anime that even manages to tug on the heartstrings a little.
